New Hires Strengthen the African American Studies Program

The College of the Liberal Arts has hired nine new faculty with full or joint appointments in the Department of African American Studies. The incoming faculty, which include the Richards Center’s 2018-1019 postdoctoral fellow Dara Walker, significantly strengthens the college’s expertise in African American and African Diaspora life and studies. Several of the newly hired scholars also will join faculty in the departments of English, History, Philosophy, Political Science, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Dean Susan Welch noted, “By deciding to form a faculty cluster in African American life and culture, we were able to attract both senior and junior faculty members from other institutions to Penn State. The enthusiasm of the candidates, the department heads, and the faculty far exceeded my expectations.” Read more about these newest members of the Penn State faculty at Penn State News.
