Winfree Professor Amy S. Greenberg Participates in Residency Program in China

Amy S. Greenberg, George Winfree Professor of American History and Women’s Studies at Penn State, participated in a one-week seminar on the history of early U.S. diplomacy this summer at Fujian Normal University in China. The residential seminar was organized by the Organization of American Historians (OAH) and the American History Research Association of China. She was one of three U.S. historians to participate in the program. Through this and similar programs, the OAH promotes the teaching and study of American history around the world. During her week in China, Dr. Greenberg delivered lectures drawn from her scholarship on America’s continental expansion and imperial ambitions in the nineteenth century. She also gave talks on antebellum urban male culture and her recent biography of First Lady Sarah Polk. She was thankful to have the opportunity to develop lectures for non-native English speakers and believes that this experience will make her an even more effective teacher. You can read more about Dr. Greenberg’s experience in China by following this link.
