Zander Interviewed by Civil War Museum of Kenosha

Spotlight

Doctoral candidate Cecily Zander was interviewed just before Thanksgiving on the Civil War Museum of Kenosha’s “Coffee and Hardtack” YouTube series. Zander discussed her recently published article about the many meanings of the Grand Review of the Union Armies that took place following the Civil War. You can watch her interview here. Zander also published an editorial for the Washington Post‘s Made By History platform. The editorial considers President Trump’s threat to veto a key defense spending bill unless the Congress amends the bill to repeal a section of the 1996 Communications Decency Act that shields social media platforms and their users from liability for the noncriminal exercise of free speech online. Zander compares this situation to historical treatment of defense spending bills and argues that efforts to insert unrelated provisions into essential legislation typically fails. Readers with a subscription to the Washington Post can read Zander’s editorial here.
