The essay to be workshopped, “The Business of Transportation Like all Other Things is Open to Abuse:” Toward a Political Economy of Labor Mobility in the Age of Emancipation, is for a special issue of Labor: Studies in Working Class History, focusing on what the organizers are calling labor’s capitalism. This piece, which is drawn from four separate parts of Ryan’s manuscript project, focuses on what he is calling the political economy of labor’s mobility.
