  From 4:00PM- 5:00PM in Foster Auditorium, Dr. Isenberg will give a lecture drawing from his recent book, The Age of the Borderlands: Indians, Slaves, and the Limits of Manifest Destiny, 1790-1850 (University of North Carolina Press, 2025). The Age of the Borderlands offers a new history of manifest destiny that breaks from triumphalist narratives of U.S. territorial expansion. Recently, the book was an honorable mention for the Merle Curti Social History Award from the Organization of American Historians. A recent review in the Journal of the Early Republic praised The Age of the Borderlands as a “masterful contribution”
